Travel Inspirations

When I was young, I always love watching anime after coming home from school. I remembered that one of my favorite anime was Nana. The series derives its title from the name of the two main characters, both of whom are called Nana. Nana Komatsu is a small town girl who goes to Tokyo to follow her boyfriend and college friends, with the hope of having her dream life. Nana Osaki was in a popular punk rockband in her hometown. She goes to Tokyo with the goal of making it big as a singer. The two Nanas meet on the train ride to the city. Later, they run into each other again when they happen to check out the same apartment, and the girls decide to become roommates. The series chronicles their friendship and their lives as each chases her dreams.

Well you might be wondering, why am I talking about anime in a travel blogpost? This anime made a great impact on my perception of Japan. This anime makes me want to travel to Japan, experience the life and culture there. Well, this anime made me fall in love with Japan. So if you ask me, what brings you to Japan? My answer would be Nana. =)

Ultimate Japan Tips & Tricks

Here are 9 Ultimate Tips to get around Japan easier. I’ve compiled it just for you!

1. Get a train card– Train cards are very convenient as it is like a prepaid card. You can use it for other transportation modes as well, like buses, airport transports and even certain stores & vending machines. You can get this card at train stations where you buy the train tickets.

2. Get a train app– Trust me, it is a life saver and it’s much easier to navigate around Japan. All you have to do is type in the current location you’re at and the destination  you want to go and it will show which train you need to take to get there.

3. Always carry cash– Most stores don’t accept credit cards including departmental stores, restaurants, etc. So it is safer to carry cash around than hoping to find a store that accept cards.

4. Use Haneda airport instead of Narita- Most flights uses Haneda but there are flights that uses Narita airport. Try to opt for Haneda as Narita airport is further and takes longer to get to downtown Tokyo City.

5. Don’t tip– You don’t have to leave a tip for cab drivers, restaurant, etc. (they will chase after you and give you back your money). If you are happy with their services, just say thank you instead of tipping them. They would really appreciate it.

6. Use google translate– Especially the camera function, where you can just take a picture and highlight the foreign word and it will translate for you. Simple as that!

7. Taking shoes off – Most probably you would have to take off your shoes before entering the changing room when you want to try clothes on in departmental stores. So be ready!

8. Use face covers – Some departmental stores requires you to use face covers when trying on clothes. Just put it over your head before trying on the clothes so your make up won’t get on the clothes.

9. Conbinis is awesome– Conbinis, short for convenience stores in Japan are not like your regular store. They have everything- snacks, clothing, hairdye, you can mail packages, pay your bills, buy concert tickets, etc.. awesome! Example for Japanese conbinis are family mart, lawson, etc.

Places To Go

Kinkaku-Ji (Golden Temple) – Kyoto
– TheKinkaku-ji (金閣寺 “Temple of the Golden Pavilion”), officially named Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺 “Deer Garden Temple”), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan.
– Kinkakuji was built to echo the extravagant Kitayama culture that developed in the wealthy aristocratic circles of Kyoto during Yoshimitsu’s times. Each floor represents a different style of architecture.

Really love the rich history of Kinkaku-Ji and it’s beautiful Golden Pavilion.

Fushimi Inari – Kyoto ( the red gates )

– Highest density of red gates. They have shops, rest stops and restaurants. To get to Yotsutsuji intersection, it takes around 35mins from the main shrine.

-It is famous for its thousands of vermilion tori gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings.

The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.

Fushimi Inari - Kyoto

Shibuya – Tokyo
-Bussiest district in tokyo
Popular for 3 main things – scramble crossing, hachiko & shopping.
One of the popular departmental shopping stores is Shibuya 109

Shibuya scramble crossing

The Hachiko Statue in Shibuya Tokyo celebrates the life of Japan’s most famous dog, Hachiko, and his legendary loyalty to his owner.

The true story of Hachiko the dog, who was a golden brown male Akita Inu (a Japanese breed from the mountains of northern Japan), who would arrive at Shibuya Station every afternoon just to wait for the return of his master Professor Hidesaburo Ueno. This pattern went on for just over a year, until one day in 1932 Professor Hidesaburo Ueno did not return. He had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while away at work and died.

To many Japanese, pets are as well loved as children, and may even serve as a substitute for those who choose to forgo child-rearing.

Cycling in Tokyo

Senso-ji in Asakusa – Tokyo

[Iridescent Beauty] 10 Uses of Coconut Oil you didn’t know about!

Hollaaa everyone! I’m back with some beauty tips you might want to know & tell your friends about! If you didn’t know already, Coconut Oil is rich in fatty acids, the beneficial effect of which shows itself both when taken by mouth and used externally.  It’s naturally antibacterial and antifungal, coconut oil for skin is an excellent moisturizer, it can penetrate hair better than other oils, and, well, it smells like cookies. xP

Skin softener. Use the oil to soften skin on elbows, heels, and around the nails. Especially if you have dry skin, coconut oil is a very good moisturizer!

Body scrub. Mix a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of ground coffee. Coffee is used as an abrasive agent, but you can replace it with finely ground sea salt, sugar, grits, or coconut shavings. If you have some on hand, add in five drops of your favorite essential oil or some pure vanilla extract for a scrub so fragrant you’ll want to eat it.

Nail hardener. To deal with brittle and dry nails, apply the oil to the nail plate. This is really useful for me, as I paint my nails very often, my nail gets more brittle & easier to chip off. Coconut oil helps a lot!

Lip balm. The oil moistens and rejuvenates the skin of the lips, heals cracks, and prevents their further appearance. I use coconut oil as an alternative to Vaseline. Both are just as useful but I love the smell of coconut oil more. =D

A dandruff remedy. Coconut oil moistens your scalp and cures dandruff. Apply it to hair roots, and leave overnight. Another way to use it is to smooth a tiny amount of organic coconut oil onto your ends of your hair to add a little shine, or on flyaways if you have dark hair. Remember that a dab will do you: Any more and your hair might appear greasy. Less is more people!

Eye cream. Before going to bed, apply coconut oil around the eyes. If you do it systematically, you’ll soon notice the reduction of wrinkles in this area. Skip those expensive over the counter brands.. go natural!

Moisturizing lotion. This product moistens your skin and takes care of it better than any other oil. Wipe your face every day with a sponge moistened with the oil. To avoid skin stretching, move along massage lines. P/S: Remember, Less is more!

To remove eye makeup. Yes, coconut oil even works on waterproof mascara! Put a little of the coconut oil on a cotton ball and gently sweep it over your eyes, paying attention to your under-eyes as well. The oil does a great job breaking down waxy, inky eye makeup, and leaves the delicate area hydrated, too. Once you’re done, wash your face as usual.

As a cheekbone highlighter. Nothing perks up a tired face like a little highlighter, but you don’t need store-bought products to achieve the same effect. Simply sweep a small amount of organic coconut oil on top of makeup and leave it alone. It looks like your skin but more glowy!  which is why many natural makeup brands use it as a base ingredient in their formulas.

To shave your legs. Conventional shaving cream is an expensive cocktail of chemicals that you don’t need to get a nice clean shave on your legs or underarms. Coconut oil, on the other hand, is inexpensive, naturally antimicrobial, and smells divine. Plus, its skin-soothing properties will leave your legs looking hydrated (but never greasy).

That’s all for the uses of coconut oil for beauty! Stay tunes for part 2 where I give more uses of Coconut oil. If you are interested in getting one, I manage to find one selling with 40% discount off. You can check it out here.

Remember, less is more. Hope you enjoyed this post. Cheers!

[Iridescent Beauty] Trying Swissvita Anti Spot Serum

Hollaaa everyone! This week I will be reviewing Swissvita Anti Spot Serum. In case all of you are wondering, this is not a pay ad review but they did send me the product so that I could review it base on my own opinion. So, without further ado let’s get started!

First thing! About Swissvita. WHERE is Swissvita from?

Swissvita’s story began 10 years ago in 2007 between two skincare labs who successfully combined the essence of European beauty with technological innovations of Asia. We achieve this by using a natural extract known as AC-11. What’s more, we’ve seen visible results from people who’ve used our products in reducing the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles and fine lines.  Taken from their website- https://swissvita.us

So, what’s so good about AC-11?

I’ve read through their website, and it seems that AC-11 is derived from the inner bark of a vine, known as Uncaria tomentosa, which is indigenous to the Amazon. This ingredient has been supported by over 40 scientific studies. Within the research, it’s been found that AC-11® helps the body repair from oxidative stress and exposure to the sun’s UV rays DNA. What does AC11® do:

Reactivates dormant cellular enzymes key to cell regeneration and repair
Boosts production of Collagen 3 that creates softer, smoother skin
Normalizes the expression of proteins (NF-κB) in the cells, reducing inflammation

Now, let’s take a look at SwissVita product packaging.

swissvita anti spot serum
Comes in a small box since the product weighs 15g
swissvita anti spot serum

The cream is in an aluminum sealed packaging to prolong the potent effects of ingredients, which is good. An a leaflet is tucked inside the box as well for more detailed instructions. Everything is easy to read & understand. Packaging is quite handy since it’s small, it’s easy to carry around.

First step: Take off the lid, bottle cap & red safety ring. You can discard the red safety ring & tighten the bottle cap.

Step two: After re-tightening the bottle cap, place a small pearl size of Anti-Spot Serum and gently smooth over face and neck, avoiding delicate eye areas.

As you can see, I have a few dark spots on my face might be due to the UV rays as I drive & go outdoors a lot. I notice that the cream was not oily & was easy to absorb.

The Features of Anti Spot Serum

  • Formulated with AC-11® and Vitamin B12 for accelerated skin reapir and collagen production
  • Brightens and reduces the look of spots
  • The power of vitamin C
  • Lighter and clearer skin
  • Gentle on all skin types
  • Intelligent packaging with risk-free guarantee

I’ve been using it everyday, and after two weeks, here are my result.

swissvita anti spot serum after

My face overall got a little little bit brighter, however my dark spots are still there, but I could feel that it is lighten.

The verdict? I would continue to use the product & see how it goes. So far I could see that my dark spots is lighter and my skin is brighter than before. Will update next time!

For those of you are interested to try it out as well, you can buy the product here Swissvita Anti Spot Serum
